WINNSBORO — Shall we compare Winnsboro to a summer day? If people visit the newest business to open in downtown, perhaps they might. Summer Day is the business venture of Kathy Timms and her husband, George.

Formerly The Yellow Daisy, Summer Day carries many of the same gift items as Yellow Daisy but with some additions and changes. Owner Kathy Timms worked at the Yellow Daisy and loved the 143 S. Congress St. location and interacting with the customers.

“I made such wonderful friends while working here. I decided to keep the store open as a service to the community,” Timms said.

Her monogramming designs business was named Summer Day Designs, so she applied the moniker to her latest business venture.

“I named it that because the summer is my favorite time of year,” Timms said.

Summertime picnics or lake outings are some of the events she caters toward since her store carries gift baskets, cookbooks, assorted dip mixes, sauces, jellies and food items.

There is a section for Clemson and the University of South Carolina merchandise, and local artisans have a hometown place to sell their wares.

Rennie Lord is among the local artisans Timms has reached out to as she puts her stamp on the downtown business community. Lord is selling candles at Summer Day.

Teresa Byrd keeps Timms stocked with glass art and handmade jewelry. Lenoir Bundy continues to make scarves and sell them in the establishment. Mike Mott sells his metal works and Sandy Howard does handbags.

The store has an artsy feel to it now, because on the back wall and near the cash register hang oil paintings by Tom Moore. Carrie Timms does embroidery and other handmade items. Compact discs are available from local artist Susan Douglas-Taylor.

Terry Vickers, president of the Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce, pledged that the chamber will do everything in its power to help enable the business to be a success — just as it does for all chamber members.

The shop is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Saturday hours are 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Timms is open to adding other local artisans on consignment at her discretion. They also do wedding registries for couples who want their new life together to be outfitted by people from Winnsboro.
