Eagles lose pair to Rebels

WINNSBORO — The Richard Winn Academy Lady Eagles suffered their first loss of the season Thursday night against the Rebels of Mid-Carolina High School.

The 5-4 Rebels pulled out a 52-35 victory behind the one-two combo of Julie Kinard and Carli Ruff. Kinard led all scorers with 23 points while Ruff added 11 for the Rebels.

Carson Justice led RWA with 14 points.

The Lady Eagles now have a 17-1 record as they return to region play on Jan. 15 when they take on Oakbrook Prep, a team in Region III SCISA.

In boys action, Mid-Carolina head coach Emmanuel DeWalt got the best of his former coach Joe Pitt. His Rebels defeated the RWA’s varsity boy’s squad 94-41.

Zach Parker led all scorers with 23 for MCHS. Cornelius Glasgow had 15 and Brent Caldwell had 14 for the 6-8 Rebels.

Leading scorers for Richard Winn were Logan Gibbons with 18 points and Cameron Cooper with 17 points. The Eagles hope to get back into the win column Tuesday in their match up against Oakwood Prep.
