FAIRFIELD COUNTY – Election Day 2012 is here and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A few things to keep in mind as you head to the polls:
– Bring our voter registrations card, driver’s license or DMV issued ID card. The new photo ID law is not in effect for Election Day 2012, but to vote you will need to show one of the before mention items.
– The display of campaign material is not allowed within 200 feet of any entrance to a polling place on Election Day. This law applies to posters, pamphlets, brochures, signs, buttons, hats, T-shirts, etc. Voters with campaign material will not be turned away, but will be asked to remove the material, cover the material, or otherwise cause the material not to be seen before being allowed to vote.
– Polling places are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and if you are standing in line at 7 p.m. you will be given a chance to vote.
– Persons with a disability and who are unable to read or write can vote and can request assistance in the voting booth.
– If you need assistance in marking your ballot, ask a poll manager. You can choose the person you want to assist you as long as they are not your employer or officer of your union or an agent of your employer or union.
– Make sure to confirm your vote. During the review time be sure that you see the names of the person you wish to vote for only. Only then should you confirm your vote, and be sure not to walk out of the voting area until the screen reads “Your ballot has been cast. Thank you for voting.”
