WINNSBORO- Town council held a work session on Monday to address ordinances and maintenance codes.

Council came together to review the amended and updated zoning ordinance that was submitted by the planning committee after 14 months of meeting.

Once the committee had made its changes, the ordinances were reviewed by Central Midlands Council of Governments.

It was noted that the committee looked at other counties and municipalities as a reference while in the process of making changes.

The council had already reviewed the draft and approved it to go forward for the first reading at the next council meeting on Tuesday.

More information on the ordinance will be available after said meeting.

Also on the agenda was a proposed fats, oil and grease ordinance for the town that would help instruct restaurants, businesses and churches with the disposal of these items.

The idea of the new ordinance came in response to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control after issues arose with storm water in sewer lines due to years of build up of fats, oil and grease.

The new ordinance, if approved after following the reading process, will apply to all customers serviced by the town.

The meeting wrapped up with discussion on the International Property Maintenance codes.

After review and discussion about the codes, it became clear to council members that if the current codes that the town has in place were enforced more regularly there would be no need to adopt a new set of codes.

To ensure that the codes are enforced, the town will seek to hire a code enforcement officer.

The ribbon cutting for the new town annex building was also announced.

It will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.
