MITFORD — The 50th anniversary of the Mitford Volunteer Fire Department was held on Saturday. This event was full of entertainment for the firefighters, their families, and the community.

The Mitford station is the oldest in the county and was first opened on Sept. 10, 1962. This is something that Chief Mike Good and her firefighters take great pride in.

The station currently has 17 firefighters on the roster and three junior firefighters. The festivities included a water slide, bounce house, horse shoe tournament, cornhole toss and a demonstration of how a person is rescued from a wrecked vehicle.

They also gave away free hotdogs and drinks to all who attended. Those who attended also received a free smoke alarm and education on how to plan in case of an emergency.

Good said, “We are here for the community, and that is who we provide free home surveys as well as help develop fire escape routes for families.”

The home survey and fire escape plans are something that is provided free of charge from this station, as a way to help make sure the community is safe and prepared.
