WINNSBORO—A public comment is a part of every council meetings agenda, and gives the public time to come in to address the council with their concerns. This section is often left open as no one shows up to speak out for their community or themselves.
That was not the case Tuesday evening, as Carolyn Gattis made her way to the podium to voice her concern for the condition of the property next to her home on West Liberty Street.
Gattis feels the condition of the property next to her home is contributing to the number of snakes that she has been killing in her yard. Fearing for her own safety she now walks around her yard when gardening with a shovel in case of another encounter with a snake.
The property next to her home has old cars, tires, and over grown with greenery.
Gattis said, “This is my home; I have no where else to go and I am requesting that the town steps in and clean this area up.”
The town has been in talks of reviewing property maintenance codes but it was not apart of this meeting’s agenda.
There was a presentation during the meeting by Joey Pfrommer with Land Tech Inc., concerning water being supplied to a 60 acre tract of land they are seeking to develop. The land located on Langford Road is being served by the town for water and will be developed into a residential subdivision of about 100 lots.
The plan is to develop the lots in phases of 25 over a course of three years. The council heard the plan by Pfrommer and Mayor Gaddy stated that they will be in contact with the company.
The grand finale of the meeting was the newly appointed judges being sworn in. The Oath of Office was administered to Judge Vannessa Hollins, Attorney Jonathan Goode and Attorney Trey Spong by Town Attorney Creighton Coleman.
