Barbara Sikes Glenn of Jenkinsville and her daughter Charman Glenn present a check to Laura Collins, director of the Fairfield County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs (FCDSNB), to name a room in honor of her daughter.
Glenn is naming a room at the new FCDSNB service center on West Washington Street in Winnsboro in honor of Charman Glenn and has chosen to sponsor an additional room in her name.
“The new building is important to expand services and accommodate others in need,” Glenn said. “I love having my daughter close to home. She has received services in the local FCDSNB residential facility since August, 2008. Charman works at the Division of Social Services and has a good quality of life. ” She said, “I would like to make the general public aware of the 235 special needs people being served right here in Fairfield County.”
The FCDSNB provides services along a continuum of care. Early intervention programs begin when a disability is first identified and interventions continue throughout the child’s school years until graduation.
High school graduates are eligible for job coaching, day programs or residential living. When space is available, consumers who meet the criteria may live in one of our twelve residential homes.
Many counseling and case management services are provided to consumers who live with their families. Other services are provided for those who receive head or spinal cord injuries.
Having served on the Board of Directors of the Exceptional Children’s Center in the 1970’s, Glenn remembers when special needs students were not even served in the Fairfield County Public Schools. She finds the present lists of services very extensive.
As an advocate for people with disabilities, Glenn hopes that others will make tax deductible donations toward the new FCDSNB service center.
You can make a group, church, company, honor donation or a donation in memory of a loved one.
A brass plaque will be placed on the door of the room you choose in the new service center.
Room naming opportunities range from $1,000. for an office to $2,500. to name the director’s office. You can call 635-2154 to make a donation.
