The Big Grab 25-mile yard sale took place Friday from 12-8 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m.–2 p.m.
The sale stretched from state Highway 21 in Blythewood, through downtown Ridgeway, over to state Highway 34 into Winnsboro, changing to U.S Highway 321 Business to make its way to downtown Winnsboro.
From there, it then turned left on to state Highway 200 w, where the sale then connected with U.S. Highway 321 Bypass for the final leg.
This event was an experience for each of the towns that took part, as it allowed hundreds of visitors to flood into the area for the weekend.
On Friday across the route, there were about 50-60 individual yard sales lining the streets, yards and sidewalks.
On Saturday that number nearly doubled, and along with sales came the shoppers. In downtown Winnsboro on Congress Street there was a line of sales starting at the Pine Tree Players Theater.
The parking lot on U. S. Highway 321 Bypass near the McDonalds was filled with 15 yard sales, selling everything from baby clothing to household items.
Around town there were people in RV’s and campers who had journeyed to the area just for the event. Not only did locals come to shop but many people traveled into town as well.
People came from as far away as Ashboro, N.C. to shop and take part in the Big Grab.
Lenny and Dee Gregerson of Winnsboro said, “We set up yard sales other places, but when we heard about this one, we gave it a chance. This was a great idea, and really helped put Winnsboro back on the map.”
Terry Vickers, president of the Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce, said the event was, “Fabulous! I spoke with every vendor set up in Winnsboro and everyone was extremely pleased with the turn-out, and the fact they were selling and making money.We had shoppers from Greenville, Charleston, Asheville, Charlotte and many other areas. We thank all our sponsors that made the advertising promotions possible, the vendors for coming out and all our shoppers for finding your big deals at the Big Grab.”
