Kathy Woodard joins the ranks of Fairfield County principals for the 2012-2013 school year; serving at Kelly Miller Elementary School.

Woodard brings with her a total of 18 years of educational experience, having taught at Geiger, Kelly Miller, and Fairfield Magnet School.

For the last two years Woodard served as assistant principal at Fairfield Elementary.

Woodard said, “I am very proud and excited to be the new principal of the Kelly Miller Elementary family and the Greenbrier community. It is a pleasure to return to the school where I was a kindergarten and first grade teacher for five years. I am happy to be reunited with so many familiar faces. Most of all, I will have the opportunity to work with some of my former students.”

Always wanting to be a role model, education seemed to be a great fit for her since she would be able to shape so many young minds.

Woodard said that her coming into the school year was a smooth transition and that the team she has at Kelly Miller never skipped a beat.

According to Woodard they started with an amazing open house and the first day of school was had little trouble.

She knows that every day is going to be a learning experience for her while she transitions into this new position, but she is more than up for the challenge.

Kelly Miller is growing leaders not just in the classroom, but beyond.

Although Woodard has an open door policy for her office, she is a strong believer of not interrupting the teaching and learning process taking place in the classroom.

With that in mind, from 8-8:45 a.m. each day, there is special time set aside for non-interrupted instruction.

“Everyone has been welcoming, helpful and extremely supportive in this process. I intend to foster a sense of community and collaboration as we work to promote and support academic excellence and positive character traits in our students while integrating the arts in the curriculum”, said Woodard.

Woodard and her husband, Stanley Woodard, are the parents of two sons.

Priding herself as a servant leader, she believes could not be in a better position where she can serve and foster the growth of future leaders.
