WINNSBORO — Next Monday is Memorial Day, which typically marks the beginning of summer vacations.

County residents should be put on notice that The Herald Independent and all banks will be closed, along with all town, county and state offices except for public safety. However, most retail stories will be open. Town of Winnsboro’s Monday trash pick up will occur on May 28.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that occurs every year on the final Monday of May and is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Coming up this weekend to help celebrate the national holiday are events including the rescheduled Relay for Life (May 24), Carolina Adventure World’s Three Day Full Moon Night Ride (May 24-May 26) and the 30th annual Flopeye Fish Festival (May 25).
