WINNSBORO — Though their final home game of the season was a rain out versus Ben Lippen that could not be rescheduled, little will rain on the parade of this young Lady Eagles softball team.
Coach Retta Taylor said the girls have worked really hard all season long. Now they are seeing the fruits of those labors as playoff time arrives. The SCISA State Tournament begins Friday for the Lady Eagles at Oak Grove in Lexington. RWA plays Robert E Lee at 4 p.m. Friday.
If the Lady Eagles win, they would play again on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
“We are young but we are playing as a team,” Coach Taylor said. “This should help us in the tournament. The tournament will be a great experience for this group of girls. They have worked really hard to get to this point.”
As a pitcher, eighth-grader Bailey Taylor leads the team in wins (8), strikeouts (85) and ERA (2.17). As a hitter she also has the highest slugging percentage (.974) and highest batting average (.684) and on-base percentage (.721). Anna Grey Walters leads the team in home runs with two.
