WINNSBORO — Over 70 Volkswagens will descend upon Midlands BioFuels in Winnsboro on Saturday for the third annual car show where car enthusiasts can work on each other’s vehicles and share trade secrets.

The Volkswagen TDI (turbo diesel injected vehicle) can also run off the bio-diesel that Midlands BioFuels produces. Car lovers from all over the region gather at 310 Main St. to do tune-ups and make a faster, more efficient Volkswagen.

Midlands BioFuels owner “Bio Joe” Renwick told a story about little Volkswagens that are so powerful a passenger cannot even grab a $20 bill off the dashboard when the driver puts his foot on the gas.

“It’s amazing,” Renwick said. “When they floor it, you can’t even lean out of your seat.”

Renwick said engine enhancements are not the only reason bio-diesel fans assemble at his plant.

“It is just a bunch of good people spending time together working on cars,” he said.

Those in attendance will also benefit from a reduced price on bio-diesel.

On Saturday, bio-diesel will sell at $3 per gallon, which is a 75-cent reduction. A car lift is inside the plant and there is plenty of room to work on cars in the parking lot and in the shaded grass lot next to the plant. Even the most novice car enthusiast is encouraged to attend and be exposed to a whole new concept of bio-diesel car.

Additionally, Renwick will give tours of the plant throughout the day. He has retooled the plant to add methanol recovery and has added over 20,000 gallons of processing tanks.

Through just some fine-tuning, car owners are able to improve efficiency and get anywhere from 40 to 50 miles per gallon. Renwick is amazed at the strides some of the car owners have made.

“It is really neat,” he said. “They’re just small model Volkswagens but the owners have tuned the engines to provide a crazy amount of power.”

Renwick encourages anyone attending to bring used motor oil or cooking oil. Those who do donate will receive 25 cents off for each gallon donated. For more information, send an email to biojoe@midlandsBiofuels.com or call 803-718-4727.
