WINNSBORO — The Herald Independent welcomed local resident Lucas Vance as its newest staff member on Monday. Vance will cover local government, community news and sports.
“I am thrilled to have Lucas join our staff in Winnsboro,” said Patricia Edwards, regional editor of The Herald Independent. “He is bringing experience to the table for us and that is something we can use to grow our readership. He is already a member of the community and knows the ins and out of Fairfield County, which will help him hit the ground running. I am looking forward to seeing how he can add to The Herald Independent and grow as a journalist.”
For the past year, Vance has worked as a contributing writer for The Independent Voice of Blythewood and Fairfield County covering the same area and issues.
Vance began his journalism career in 2012 by covering Winnsboro’s town council and Fairfield Central High School athletics. A graduate of the University of North Texas (2007, Broadcast Journalism), he focused on sports broadcasting after graduation.
He is now excited to join the staff at the Herald Independent.
“I am looking forward to this opportunity and continuing my career in journalism,” he said. “A lot of my family resides in Fairfield County and that makes Winnsboro a special place. I’m proud to bring the local community information about governmental news, sports and community events.”
In addition to journalism he also has worked as a radio/television broadcaster and producer. He attends Christ Central Church in Winnsboro and enjoys playing sports, watching movies, listening to the radio and swimming.
