Provided the requests make it through this evening’s Finance Committee meeting, Winnsboro Town Council will consider several expenditures from two of the Town’s department heads at their 6:15 p.m. meeting.
Streets and Sanitation is pitching a request to replace the Town’s 1991 Chevrolet dump truck. Billy Castles, Director of Streets and Sanitation, will propose that, for $14,000, the Town purchase the cab and chassis of a new vehicle and transplant the current dump truck bed onto it.
According to the request, maintenance costs for the last year have been $4,226 for the current dump truck, with an additional $1,200 expected for future maintenance.
Castles is also requesting that the $4,000 that had been allotted for restroom upgrades in his department be reassigned for construction of a storage room in the Crew Quarters. The original location for the restroom upgrade ran into difficulty with the sewer connection. Construction of the storage room would free up space in the existing supply room for a future restroom upgrade.
Winnsboro’s Gas, Water and Sewer Department is also looking for funds tonight. Jesse Douglas, Director of the department, will request a total of $224,000 – all of which is included in the 2011-2012 budget, the request states, but which was allocated to purchase other items.
Douglas is seeking $144,000 to repair three water filters, $10,000 for water tank valves and controls, $8,000 for chemical feed equipment and scales, $25,000 to upgrade the I-77 pump near the Ramada Inn and $36,604 to paint the 11th Street water tank.
The water filter repairs, chemical feed equipment and water tank controls will allow the water filter to be upgraded and improve water quality to customers, the request states. The pump upgrade and water tank painting will allow the water department to meet State Department of Health and Environmental Control requirements.
The Finance Committee meeting starts at 5 p.m. at Town Hall. Full Council meets at 6:15 p.m.
