WINNSBORO — How can you get things done in your community? Questions like that will be answered June 8 at a community empowerment meeting at the Greenbrier fire station on S.C. 269.
The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon and will be facilitated by Kamau Marcharia, a member of the Fairfield County Council.
“I’m eager to listen to what people have to say,” Marcharia said. “This meeting is set up to organize the community to become an action force for their needs.”
Input from citizens is critical to the success of the community and to the creation of a plan for the community and all of western Fairfield county.
During the last Fairfield County Council meeting, citizens expressed concerns about the lack of recreation and other services in the Greenbrier Community. The meeting Saturday will give residents an opportunity to hold discussions revolving around the problems — the biggest of which are recreation, jobs and food — in the community.
Marcharia said he knows it will take a team effort to resolve the problems.
“We’re all educating one another,” he noted. “I’m educating them on the resources in the county and they are presenting me with the issues around the community.”
Marcharia hopes to have an informative dialogue revolving around issues in the community. The goal of the Saturday meeting is to obtain and prioritize information.
“Once we have discussed all the separate issues we can start to make progress by putting idealism into realism,” Marcharia stated.
A follow-up work session including strategy and tactics workshops will be determined following the initial meeting.
