In true to form fashion, the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office believes that no case is cleared or forgotten until it is solved.
On July 27, 2009, the victim, who is a cab driver, picked up two men on Smith Road near Newberry Academy at approximately 11 p.m.
When the driver did not report in, the dispatch called the sheriff’s office to be on the lookout for the taxi.
A Newberry County deputy searching for the cab in that area found the victim in a ditch near Chappells suffering from gunshot wounds.
Another Newberry County Deputy then located the cab in a ditch near the intersection of Belfast Road and Belmont Church Road. The suspects had fled the area of the cab.
“Investigators continued to follow many leads in the case searching for the break that they needed to solve this case,” said Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster.
The investigators were able to gather information that James Ojore Tribble, 19, of 625 Dixie Drive, Newberry, was the man who shot the cab driver.
Acting on this tip, investigators prepared a photo lineup that included the suspect and asked the victim to see if the man who shot him was in the lineup of six people including Tribble. Investigators say that the victim was able to identify Tribble as the man who shot him.
Warrants were obtained on Tribble charging him with attempted Murder and armed robbery. He was arrested without incident on April 20 and remains in custody pending a bond hearing before a circuit court judge.

“I am so proud of and pleased with the investigators efforts on this case,” said Foster. “They stayed the course and brought the suspect to justice and at least partial closure to the victim and his family.”
