RIDGEWAY — Area business persons, educational leaders and government officials gathered Monday for their annual Industry Appreciation Dinner at Mount Hope Plantation.
A few of the businesses represented were Lang Mekra, Performance Fibers, Ben Arnold, Elite ES, SCANA, Shaw Group, Palmetto Imaging Technology, Midlands Biofuels, E-fuels PMR, Glenn and Associates Surveying, Phillips Granite and Isola.
In addition to networking and fellowship, the dinner was held to recognize one of Fairfield’s own.
Jeff Archie of SCANA was honored as the 2012 Ambassador for Economic Development for Fairfield County.
A native of Jenkinsville, Archie is vice president and chief nuclear officer at the V.C. Summer nuclear facility.
County Council Chairman David Ferguson held Archie up as a shining example of what other Fairfield natives can aspire to achieve.
County Council Vice Chairman Dwayne Perry mentioned Archie’s many contributions to the area including time spent as chair of the Fairfield Economic Round Table and time serving on the economic development strategic planning committee, as well as the public speaking Archie does at area schools.
“We at SCANA would not be this far along without Fairfield County. We are teammates…. and the county has supported us and worked with us throughout,” Archie said. “I am proud to be from Fairfield and Jenkinsville and I would not change a thing.”
He mentioned the great situation for himself and for the county and how V.C. Summer will build two new plants to make area residents proud.
Ferguson and others expressed appreciation for one of Fairfield’s own.
“Nothing can repay you for what you have done for your self and for the county,” Ferguson said.
Prior to the award presentation, attendees enjoyed networking time as they conversed beneath a large tent on the plantation property.
After the presentation, those present dined on a meal of low country boil.
It is hoped that by having these representatives from area businesses and business development organizations in close proximity at the meal that they will make more contacts and find innovative ways to build up industry and create job opportunities in Fairfield County.
