FAIRFIELD COUNTY — Ryan Bean has joined the Clemson Cooperative Extension Service as a Forestry and Natural Resource agent in the Midlands Region.

Bean spent seven years with the S.C. Forestry Commission in Sumter. He is a 2004 graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in Forest Resource and Management.

Bean works in Fairfield and Kershaw counties implementing educational programs providing expertise in a range of topics covering many aspects of forestry, wildlife, and water quality. The Master Tree and Master Gardner Programs are just two that are offered by Clemson Extension under Bean in conjunction with the Horticulture Agent.

The Master Gardener Program trains, selects and utilizes knowledgeable volunteers to facilitate the educational work by delivering research-based information to citizens of the state. This is just one of the programs that allow the different agents to work together, encompassing more than just one of the departments.

Bean also will work with landowners to provide resources in maintaining trees and/or the removal of timber, and he will speak to school groups or community groups. Bean will be located in the Fairfield County office in the JB Floyd Building on U.S. 321 about two days a week. He can be reached at 803-840-6124.
