The town is not interested in code enforcement other than cutting grass. I worked on this for 4 years while I was a town councilman with no success. One of the current councilmen said, and I quote, “Nobody is going to tell me what to do with my property.”

My first impression of our town is nobody cares .You don’t see this in Newberry or Camden. They care about their towns and it shows.

We have buildings/houses all over town and many on Congress Street that need work. However no enforcement on these buildings. Why now only on Mt. Zion?

Now Mayor Gaddy says he wants to tear the building down. The town was given the building in good faith by the Mt. Zion Society because it was believed to have the money and resources to preserve. They were also given $125,000. Do you think the town looked into installing a new roof to protect the property?

I doubt it. All I have ever heard from the Mayor and council was that $125,000 was to be used for tearing the building down.
