WINNSBORO — Gunshots were fired around 8 p.m. Friday off Fagan Road in the south Winnsboro area, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

A 38-year-old male victim, whose named has not been released, suffered two gunshot wounds.

According to Capt. Brad Douglas, two shots were fired with one bullet striking the victim in the left shoulder and the other one grazing his right eye and temple.

“The report says two shots were fired and our victim has two separate wounds, which appear to be from gunshot,” he stated.

Douglas believes that the injuries are non-life threatening.

Reportedly, it was a physical altercation that escalated to gun shots being fired in the Winnsboro Mill area.

Douglas emphasized that the shooting was not a random act and that the parties knew each other.

“It appears to be some sort of altercation that escalated to this,” he noted.

The supposed shooter was not on site when deputies arrived on scene. Douglas said three people left the scene in a vehicle after the shooting.

“Indications are that they have left town,” Douglas told The Herald Independent. “We’re trying to determine where they may be at this time.”

The incident report states that witnesses heard two gunshots and observed the victim run into the house bleeding.

Following the shooting, the victim was placed in a vehicle by a witness and taken to the emergency room.

According to the incident report, the weapon used was a handgun.

Although the sheriff’s office did confirm they are looking at three subjects of “interest,” they did not want to release their identities because the investigation is ongoing.
