Ashland University

ASHLAND, Ohio — Laureen Carter of Elgin, S.C., received a bachelor of science degree during Ashland University commencement ceremonies on May 9. Carter majored in nursing.

Bob Jones University

GREENVILLE — Blythewood resident Kellie Cinicola was among the more than 700 students who graduated from Bob Jones University on May 8. Cinicola graduated with a bachelor of arts in Biblical Counseling.

Coastal Carolina University

CONWAY – Several area residents were among the more than 1,100 students who graduated from Coastal Carolina University on May 9 at the HTC Center. Area graduates were:

Coker College

HARTSVILLE — Jasmine Jones of Blythewood and Katie Sears of Blythewood were named to the Coker College Dean’s List for spring 2015. Students qualify for the Dean’s List at Coker College by earning a 3.75 or higher grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

Also, Jasmine Jones of Blythewood graduated Cum Laude from Coker College on May 16 with a bachelor of arts in biology.

Newberry College

NEWBERRY — Senior Melanie Lalumondier of Blythewood was inducted into membership in the Bachman Honor Society at Newberry College’s annual Awards Day Convocation on April 10.

NEWBERRY — Grady Dillingham of Winnsboro was among those recognized at the Newberry Education Society pinning ceremony on Feb. 25. Dillingham received a commemorative pin as a model for life-long learning, service and professional behavior on campus, in public school, and state and global communities.

The Newberry Education Society was organized to bring Newberry College’s Teacher Education majors together to build the foundation to support the dedication and success of future teachers.

Pinned teacher education majors will now continue on their journey to become highly qualified teachers who are passionate about their profession and demonstrate the level of reflective knowledge necessary to instruct and inspire future generations of students.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College

ORANGEBURG – Ashley Drummond of Elgin and Kolisa Willingham of Winnsboro were named to the President’s List for the 2015 spring term at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.

Piedmont Technical College

GREENWOOD — Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2014 fall semester earned inclusion on the President’s List. To be named to the list, students must be full time and earn a term GPA of 4.00. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.

President’s List students from Fairfield County were Reed A. Branham, Victoria G. Durham and Joseph D. Goldin, all of Winnsboro.

The Merit List recognizes students who are registered for 6-11 credit hours and have earned term GPAs of 3.75 or higher.

The Merit List student from Fairfield County was Elisabeth Resseguie of Ridgeway.

Piedmont Technical College

GREENWOOD — Danielle Kaycie Robinson of Blair received a certificate in office technician from Piedmont Technical College during its spring commencement ceremonies.

Southern Wesleyan University

CENTRAL – Michaela Wickham of Blythewood was named to Southern Wesleyan University’s spring 2015 Dean’s List. Students named to the Dean’s List earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher on all work attempted (12 hours or more) during the spring 2015 semester, with no grade for any single course below 3.0.

SUNY Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. — The State University of New York at Potsdam recognized more than 1,000 candidates for graduation during the College’s 2015 Commencement celebrations on May 16 and 17.

Brittany Bullock of Blythewood, S.C., graduated with distinction from SUNY Potsdam with a Master of Science in Teaching degree in Childhood Education.

The Citadel

CHARLESTON — Wendell Estep of Blythewood was inducted into The Citadel’s Chapter of The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Estep was among 78 other members inducted into Phi Kappa Phi.

CHARLESTON — The Citadel’s Commandant of Cadets designated commanders, regimental staff, sergeants major and first sergeants for the Class of 2016.

David Salter of Blythewood was designated Third Battalion K Company First Sergeant and Gregory Williamson of Blythewood was designated Fifth Battalion PB First Sergeant. They will assume their stations when the fall semester begins.

Salter and Williamson were among the nine top-ranking positions recognized during a private ceremony with The Citadel’s president, Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa, The Citadel’s Associate Provost, Col. Mark Bebensee, and The Commandant of Cadets, Capt. Geno Paluso. The new officers were provided with the chevrons that will be added to their uniforms to reflect their ranks.

CHARLESTON — Dylan Cruz of Ridgeway, Ryan Moore of Elgin and Marvin Shepard of Elgin, members of The Citadel Class of 2015 were recognized for excellence in leadership, service and academics. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of 430 seniors from 34 states on May 9, 2015. Of those cadets, 148 were commissioned as officers. Veteran students were also among the graduates. Top areas of study for the class included business administration, engineering, political science and criminal justice.

CHARLESTON — Ryan Moore of Elgin, a 2015 graduate of The Citadel, was chosen by Citadel faculty members for the 2015 list of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Moore was recognized during the annual Awards Convocation on May 7, 2015. Moore received a BSBA in Business Administration during commencement on May 9, 2015.

Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs in the nation. Nominations are based on strength of character, academic achievement, military achievement, leadership, campus activities and participation and excellence in athletics at the varsity, intramural or club sport level.


SPARTANBURG — Charles Scurry of Blythewood was honored with the Student Service Award, Spring 2015 President of the JCBE Accounting Club and 2014 JCBE Student Advisory Board at the University of South Carolina-Upstate.


SUMTER — Ethan Bredvick of Blythewood, Rachel Clark of Ridgeway and Samuel Lake of Blythewood were named to the USC Sumter Spring 2015 Dean’s List.

Wofford College

SPARTANBURG — Wofford College conferred degrees to 368 graduates at the 161st Commencement Exercises on May 17, 2015. Area students receiving degrees were:

Blythewood: Taylor Mason Baird, bachelor of arts; Elizabeth Kipling Von Keller, bachelor of arts.

Elgin: Harmony Karole White, bachelor of science; Adam Isaiah Wirth, bachelor of science, cum laude.
