WINNSBORO — One of the service projects Lions perform is collecting used eyeglasses that are then taken to the S.C. Lions Charitable Services office in Columbia to be sent to Lions International.
The glasses are then distributed to nations where citizens cannot afford eyeglasses or do not have access to vision care.
“We take used glasses to Columbia several times a year,” said Paul Dove, president of the Winnsboro Lions Club. “We had almost one hundred pairs in good condition that will benefit needy people.”
Each year South Carolina Lions collect and recycle over 300,000 pairs of used glasses. Eyeglasses recycling bins are located at Park Sterling Bank and the Fairfield County Memorial Hospital lobby.
Any Winnsboro Lion will be happy to receive donations of used glasses. Fairfield High School Interact students also conduct an annual used eyeglasses collection to donate to the local Lions Club.
