FAIRFIELD COUNTY — The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office will begin its seventh Citizens Academy class on Feb. 9.

Sessions will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Tuesday for six weeks at the FCSO Training Center (former SC National Guard Armory Building) at 5509 Old Airport Road in Winnsboro.

Participants must be 18 years of age and residents of Fairfield County with no, or limited, criminal history and they must commit to attending at least five of the six sessions. The class size is limited to 25 participants. Future classes will be scheduled as interest dictates.

The class is designed to acquaint participants with the personnel, services, investigative techniques, and day to day operations of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Topics covered include narcotics investigations, criminal investigations, functions of School Resource Officers, local gang awareness, Community Oriented Policing programs, special operations, and a general overview of the structure of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.
