WINNSBORO — The Winnsboro Cotillion presented two debutantes at the 61st annual Winter Ball held on Dec. 12.
At a reception prior to the ball, Mrs. George Ivey Matthews, President, and Mr. Matthews; Mr. Russell Miller Brown, President-Elect, and Mrs. Brown; and the debutantes and parents received members and guests.
The debutantes were presented by their fathers and then performed the traditional debutante figure with their escorts and marshals.
Each debutante carried the Winnsboro Cotillion signature bouquet of pale pink roses, pink lisianthus, miniature orchids, freesia, and greenery clustered in an embossed silver holder. Following the debutante figure and the grand march, members and guests of the cotillion enjoyed an evening of dining and dancing.
Debutantes making their formal bows to society were Sarah Elizabeth Coleman and Anna Grey Walters
Sarah Elizabeth Coleman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Howard Coleman III. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Howard Coleman Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gid Ramsey.
Coleman is a sophomore at Clemson University majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. She served as the president and also the salutatorian of her 2014 graduating class at Richard Winn Academy. Coleman will be a teaching assistant at Clemson University in the spring of 2016.
Her escort was her brother, Charles Howard Coleman IV of Blythewood. He is a graduate of Clemson University. Her marshal was Michael Ralph Mills Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ralph Mills Sr. of Blair. He attends Clemson University.
Anna Grey Walters is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Eugene Walters. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Lawrence Eugene Walters of Winnsboro and the late Lawrence Eugene Walters, and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Herbert Rexrode.
Walters is a sophomore at Newberry College, where she is majoring in Early Childhood Education. She is the recipient of the South Carolina Teaching Fellow award, and she is an active member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She serves as vice president of operations and public relations in this organization.
Walters’ escort was Austin Alan Costenbader, son of Mr. and Mrs. Heath Alan Costenbader of Winnsboro. Costenbadar attends Lander University. Walters’ marshal was her brother, Boyce Eugene Walters II.
