FAIRFIELD COUNTY — Fairfield County lost a vital member of its education community this week when Andrea Harrison passed away on Wednesday after battling breast cancer.

Harrison, 45, had been a part of the school district’s Board of Trustees since 2010.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium at Fairfield Central High School. It is open to the public.

Harrison was instrumental in the improvement of the schools in Fairfield County during her tenure. She served as the chair of the Board of Trustees and, in that role, was key in bringing Dr. J.R. Green to the Fairfield School District.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ms. Harrison,” Green said in a statement. “She worked meticulously to achieve the goals of the district. Ms. Harrison placed service above self and was a true steward of education. She served the district with dedication and devotion. Ms. Harrison brought great value and warmth to our district and will be greatly missed.”

Prior to serving on the Board of Trustees, she did volunteer work with students and various schools.
