WINNSBORO — The town of Winnsboro throws a party like few others can.
Friday night, Pumpkin Fest kicked off with a crowd organizers called the biggest they had seen. Children and adults were decked out in pirate swag, princess gowns and masks that would scare even the Boogie Man.
Attractions were all over downtown Winnsboro so there was no shortage for activities for kids age 1 to 101. Businesses decorated tables and gave out candy while faces were painted and puppets were dancing.
While one of the three food contests had no entries, the pumpkin pie contest and the jams and jellies contest were heated. Judges enjoyed all entries, and while ribbons were given out, it was the judges who came away the real winners.
Winners from all categories from costume to candy provisions were announced. Aiden Anderson as The Big Bad Wolf won the best costume award. The Cornwallis Tea Room won best table decorations and candy. Stephanie Levy had the judges’ favorite pumpkin pie and her peach jam took home first place as well.
As Pumpkin Fest transitioned into Rock Around the Clock, it seemed as if the whole town were coming together. The Flashback Party Band put on a great show, the kids were dancing and, before long, so were the adults.
