Phillips Granite Company   In 1933 Herman Grady Phillips from Georgia, was lured to South Carolina by the great quantities of blue granite.  He opened a wholesale finishing plant in Rion, South Carolina before moving his plant site adjacent to the Winnsboro Blue Granite Quarry.  His son, Herman Grady Phillips, Jr. (Phil) joined the business in 1952 and in 1966, Phillips Granite Company was moved to its present site in Winnsboro.  In 1977, Herman Grady Phillips III, (Grady) joined the company and is now the President of Phillips Granite. "We make something enduring," says Grady, "and that is important to every person in our business.  We're quite low key folks; however we are very much aware of the significance of what we manufacture."  Phillips monuments are shipped from Winnsboro all over the country.  Many go to monument dealers which Grady's Father first called on in the 1950's.  All will serve as a point of remembrance for loved ones for years to come.
