West Point murder suspect turns himself in

LaTrell Harper, 22, of Lanett turned himself in Monday morning at around 9 a.m. for the alleged shooting and murder of Willis Bulger, 29, of Lanett, according to West Point Police.

On Saturday night, Harper and Bulger were in the the 400 block of 3rd avenue in West Point when an altercation broke out and Harper allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Bulger.

According to previous reports, Harper allegedly fled the scene on foot into Lanett and Bulger was taken to George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Alabama, where he later died from his injuries.

Police were previously searching for Harper in the West Point/Lanett area before he turned himself in. He was transported and booked into the Troup County Jail.

Harper is facing a murder charge in addition to possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and two counts of criminal street gang charges.
