WINNSBORO — Richard Winn Academy battled Whitmire High School on Dec. 9 and the Lady Eagles had no trouble, winning by a margin of 61-6.
Top scorers were Carson Justice with 15, Jaycie Johnson and Jessie Stidham each with 12, and Alyssa Atkerson with nine.
The varsity boys game was one to watch. Going into the locker rooms at the half, Whitmire was ahead 20-19. Free throws saved the Eagles in the second half, as they hit eight of 13. Richard Winn emerged victorious with a score of 50-39. Patrick Pope supplied the Eagles with 19 points. Joseph Goldin scored nine, and Mason Gibbons added six points.
The Eagles travelled to Laurens Academy on Dec. 10. The Lady Eagles’ defense was ready to go, holding the Lady Crusaders to only eight points in the first half. Richard Winn won with ease, 62-18. Justice led in points scored with 19, Stidham had 16, and Johnson contributed nine.
Laurens’ Academy’s boys took an early lead against the Eagles. That lead held throughout the entire game. The Crusaders held the Eagles to just 45 points. Final score: 64-45. Pope was top scorer with 15 points. John Coleman had nine. Goldin and Cameron Cooper each scored six.
Richard Winn travels to Johnston to play Wardlaw Academy on Dec. 13.
