This year the Fairfield Arts Council put together a student photography contest for the high school students of Fairfield County. Chris Cherry, organizer for the event, expressed her thanks to everyone who participated. "We are honored to provide this exciting creative outlet to our high school kids. I know that we will see even more exceptional work in future contests and gallery shows!"
All photos were taken by students at Fairfield High School and Richard Winn Academy. The contest was judged using a blind list with numbers in place of names. Our judge was Russell Jeffcoat, currently residing in Winnsboro. A commercial and portrait photographer for 20 years, his work can be seen in museums and private collections throughout the southeast. Russell frequently judges art exhibits at shows and museums.
The contest theme was "Southern Life" and photos were judged in five categories, including Architecture, Landscape, Historic, Portrait and Still Life. A final category "People s Choice" was awarded to the photo that received the most votes from Saturday s festival goers.
Our winners for each category were
Still Life -- Carrie Timms
Landscape -- Kelly Cooper
Portrait -- Chloe Cinncotta
Historic -- Chloe Cinncotta
Architecture -- Chloe Cinncotta
Chloe also won "People s Choice" by an overwhelming margin for her beautiful autumn landscape photo.
The FCAC wishes to thank their Arts Council volunteers made up of board members and active members, as well as donors and supporters of the event. Special thanks to Fairfield Paint and Frame for additional support, and Red Tree Gallery for sponsorship of the event. Most of all they would like to thank our Fairfield County students who took such great photos. Without their participation this event would not have been possible.
Winning photos in all categories will be displayed at Town Hall for the next three months.
