WINNSBORO — Friday night Fairfield County holds its rescheduled Relay for Life. This year the event will be held in the bus traffic circle area between Fairfield Middle School and Fairfield Central High School.
“Since they are taking up the grass around the track field, we have moved the location this year,” said event organizer Stacy Pearson. “If it rains (barring tornado activity) we will move the event into the high school gym.”
The relay starts at 7 p.m. The survivor’s walk will be at 7:15 p.m. followed by the caregiver’s walk.
Joey Beckham and one of his friends will give a testimony during the first hour of the event.
Luminaries will be lit around 9 p.m. in honor of and in memory of cancer patients including those who lost their lives to the disease.
Members of the Extraordinary Kings Program will help set up for the event, including setting up luminaries. This year the luminaries will be held into place using canned goods. The canned goods and nonperishable food items will be donated to the Fairfield County Food Bank.
Special parking will be reserved for cancer survivors and golf carts will be available to transport them to and from the area. Parking for everyone else will be available at FCHS and FMS.
“Thus far we have raised over $10,000,” Pearson said. “And teams are still turning money in.”
She expects to have a great event this year and encourages the community to come out and help celebrate birthdays at the Relay for Life.
The evening includes line dancing lessons. Church Gospel choirs will sing and the high school and middle school dance classes will perform.
Vendor space is still available. Vendors who would like to participate need to contact Pearson at 803-633-6615 to reserve a spot.
